Getting Started:

Minimum requirements:

• IE 4.0 on a PC-compatible computer
• IE 5.0+ recommended
• Adobe Acrobat Reader (may be downloaded from www.adobe.com -- visit:
  http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readermain.html)

Getting Started:

• double click on the file "index.htm" to launch the Figure Browser
• the Figure Browser launches full screen
• the Windows key-stroke ALT+TAB can be used to switch to other Windows applications
• click "EXIT" to exit at any time (or use the Windows key-stroke ALT+F4)
• the Figure Browser initially displays a Table of Contents
• click "Getting Started" for instructions and shortcuts
• click "List of Figures" to view the complete figure list
• click "Chapter..." to view figures by chapter
• click "Photo Credits" to view credits by figure

Find a Figure:

• click on "Table of Contents" in the upper left grey navigation bar to view the Table of Contents
• select a chapter to view figures within that chapter by clicking on the chapter link in the Table of Contents or on the chapter label in the grey navigation bar
• a chapter view page will be displayed with an index on the left
• if the figures are grouped under sub-headings, click on a sub-heading to the left to un-collapse the heading
• click the figure number links to view figures
• previous and next links above the figure image can also be used to view figures sequentially (keyboard shortcuts are underlined)
• figures in Adobe Acrobat format (designated with "-A" following the figure numbers) are launched in a separate window; these figures are also included in Appendix A of the dissertation

Select View Mode:

• the Figure Browser can be used in 2 different view modes: "Index View" or "Full Size"
• select the view mode by clicking on the appropriate link above the figure image (just to the right of the previous & next links)
• Index View is launched by default and displays the figure index to the left of the figure image
• Full Size mode maximizes the figure image to its original pixel size so that details can be examined; scrollbars may be necessary
• keyboard shortcuts (below) work in both modes

Keyboard Shortcuts:

• "n" -- Next ("f"orward also works)
• "p" -- Previous ("b"ack also works)
• "z" -- Full Size
• "v" -- Index View
• arrow keys -- Scroll (if necessary)
• ALT+F4 -- Exit (Windows keyboard shortcut)
• ALT+TAB -- Switch between applications (Windows keyboard shortcut)
